About De-oiled Rice Bran

De-oiled rice bran (DORB) is what remains after rice bran oil is solvent-extracted from the bran produced in rice milling. With 14–16% protein, low oil and good keeping quality, it is a staple energy-and-fibre ingredient in cattle, poultry and fish feed across South and South-East Asia. As the world’s largest rice producer, India generates large volumes of bran in West Bengal, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Export policy

India prohibited DORB exports from July 2023 to protect domestic feed supply, and lifted the ban in October 2025, so Indian DORB is again available to overseas buyers.

What to specify

Sand and silica content is the parameter that separates good and poor DORB, followed by protein, fibre and moisture. Pellets store and travel better than mash.
